Boutique Hotel

The building dates back to the 1890s, these gilded former-residences of Cukurcuma elite that've been recaptured in all their glory as one of the city's best boutique hotels by local designers The Autoban Group. The hotel occupies a chic four-storey mansion in the old district of Cukurcuma/Galatasaray located between Bosporus and Istiklal Avenue that's more familiar to Istanbul business travelers than your usual tourist set.

A humble street presence of period architecture and ornate doors opens to a hand painted tile hallway with arched cast-iron window frames and dramatic staircase that rises through the spine of the building surrounded in white plasterwork and laid in marble flooring.

Check-in happens at a easily missed landing with small seating area and webbed screen that silhouettes a minimal staff presence echoed throughout the hotel. With no true restaurant to speak, a top floor penthouse is nestled under a rustic beam ceiling that feels equal parts hunting lodge and Soho House offering collection of tufted-leather sofas and communal tables for morning breakfast and late-night supper over bottles of Middle Eastern wines and cocktails.

The Room

20 is almost the perfect number, at least in terms of hotels rooms that equates to an intimate residential-type hotel experience like that found at Istanbul’s The House Hotel Galatasaray. Entry-level Mini-Suites are high on the glamour with parquet flooring and white plaster details on the walls and ceiling that give the compact space more than its quota of drama. Wall-mounted LCD screens and freestanding beds with white linens with chocolate piping offer minimal views on lower level floors. Executive Suites come with separate living and bedroom spaces with King-size beds with in-parlor showers cocooned in a white sphere of clear glass. Chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling windows lend the feel of a Paris abode albeit with an Ottoman vibe complete with butler service.
